Smashwords and for a paperback version on Createspace. It tells the story of Gloria our protagonist and her life as an S.O.E.[Special Operations Executive] Agent during WW2.This cohort became known as Churchill's Secret Army. Gloria was one of only 39 women to be recruited. It is an inspirational, page turner and for those who are interested in the war years and a fictional novel containing many facts. It will be for you.

The Liberty Bodice

Gosh,I think it won't be long before it is published. I'm talking of my second novel 'The Liberty Bodice' I had to find an artist for the book cover, back page and bio with photo. That is now finished and has been sent to my publisher at Wolf Paw, U.S.A. It has taken so much longer that I ever thought it would. I'm very excited about this book, my second novel, as I believe it will have considerable appeal to those readers who enjoy WW2 stories. And when they involve such heroines as Gloria, whose amazing tenacity, bravery and courage is an example to us all,it makes the book even more enjoyable. The story tells about a young woman who joins the S.O.E.[Special Operations Executive]a group of agents who became known as Churchill's secret army. Only 39 women were accepted for the rigorous training. Thereafter facing tremendous hardship as they fought alongside the French résistance agents in occupied France. Many factual events are documented, the S.O.E. being one of them. Those of us who lived during those war years or soon after, can identify with the story. I well recall my parents telling me many tales of 'What happened during the war.'

We are home again.

Good afternoon to you. After an amazing short break in the lowlands of bonny Scotland, where the Arctic bloom was in full force, home we came. To be honest with you, the Arctic bloom followed us to the sunny South. At the risk of being called a SOFT SACENACH,I really don't understand our weather. Only 3 weeks back we were in summer clothes and taking day trips to zoos with the grand children. Enough of that, it's only 10 days before I finally leave my workplace for good. I will have worked for the same Trust for the last 49 years and 5 months. That took a bit of doing. Will have more time to write/blog then. May the FORTH be with you.

I have an educated, elocution tutored voice, and have joined the happy throng. Today I have my first commission, and feel very excited. Have a great Sunday.

Part of the 1st,paragraph of my new novel The Liberty Bodice.

The Liberty Bodice Chapter One New beginnings My thoughts turn to the time I was born. The year was 1922; it was winter and not so long after the end of the First World War. Mum told me later how bitterly cold it was. “As cold as a psychopath’s heart, that it was on the day you were born,

Great news

I am having my first novel 'Figs,Vines and Roses' an eread by Joy M. Lilley shown on the authors listings at the London International Book fair 2015. This is so exciting. Another piece of good news is that I have secured a Traditional publisher for my 2nd novel 'The Liberty Bodice.'

The Second Eye

No it's not the title of my latest book, but the left eye cataract operation. Not quite so good as the first, I should have asked for another anaesthetic eye drop. This of course is our prerogative as a patient. When working as a nurse in the colposcopy unit. I'm always amazed at how little people who have agreed to have the procedure don't ask for more anaesthetic, or stop the process and ask for a general one instead. Perhaps that's down to the British stiff upper lip. Good news is that the effect is immediate and how amazing is that!

Good evening,

Auntie Peggy is getting along quite well. Now I must share the difficulty I am having in finding a traditional publisher. All the tales of how hard it is are true, believe me. There are numerous amounts of Vanity press after my book, with stories of how good it is to spend between £500-- and £5000 with them. At times it makes you feel quite downhearted. But I shall continue to try. If there are publishers out there who happen to read this,do get in touch. joygerken@yahoo.co.uk

Latest post

My sister and I could not believe it when we visited Auntie Peggy on Sunday. She had been brought downstairs to play bingo, along with the other elderly patients. She still looks frail and the staff said that she was indeed still very ill, but what a wonderful surprise. Long may she thrive and survive.

Auntie Peggy

Good morning, My auntie Peggy is still with us, we are so lucky that the residential home she has been in for the last 3 years is where she will spend her last days. This is an issue as many residential homes do not keep patients who become seriously dependent. They have had a hospital bed with a ripple[continuous movement mattress] put into her bedroom, which helps to avoid bed sores, and allows the nursing staff to have easier access to turn the patient. Dear Auntie Peggy, may her final days be filled with love and kindness.

Auntie Peggy.

Some of you may remember tales of auntie Peggy, telling of the humorous antics of a lovely old lady. Sadly she is about to leave this world. Her body is slowly failing and she now suffers heart failure. Even her imminent demise is not without it's humour. She had not wished to smoke her three rationed cigarettes a day for the last month as she preferred to stay in bed. However last week she managed somehow to find the strength to pull on a pair of trousers, leave her forth floor room, take the lift, then seek out staff and said 'I want a fag'. You may also recall that her alcohol consumption was hastily stopped about four months back because her liver function was deranged, and the Doctors orders were strictly no alcohol. I feel so sad as Auntie Peggy was to go to my son's home for Christmas and all she could think of and talk about regarding this visit was that she would be able to have her longed for'Famous Grouse'

The new kitten

We have taken in yet another four month old cat, her name is Lily. She joins Molly and Lucy, her sisters. It's a weakness on our part to take in these rescue cats. I don't know the full extent of her history, only that lily, who is a tortoiseshell puss, was rescued along with her two black brothers. We ended up with Lily after going to see another older cat who needed a home, sadly she would have been far to timid with our older cats who would have bullied the life out of her. The three are getting to know each other now and the older girls no longer snarl at Lily. When my husband says 'Time for a 'walkies' round the garden.' she panics and runs to the nearest hiding hole she can find. Makes me sort of wonder if we have taken on an indoor lady.

AFTER THE OP.

Good evening, I have to tell you that the worries and fears I felt before undergoing the cataract Operation were nothing short of terrible. When I got there my mouth was so dry I couldn't speak. However, after the preliminaries of hoards of eye drops, then the march into theatre. The business was over in ten minutes and the wonderful news is that the effect of surgery is immediate sight. I really had no need to panic as the abundant staff were kind and courteous, and the ambience of the centre used by the National Health service delightful. Cataracts must be contagious as my husband went to the Optician today, and he has been put onto the waiting list for surgery.

THE LIBERTY BODICE.

Good evening, my latest novel is now complete. All the editing and proofreading is done. I now seek a publisher as I don't want to self-publish. If anyone has ideas of where I can find a good publisher, please let me know. Have A GREAT WEEK. Joy

Thank you to my friends who gave me such encouraging messages for the forthcoming cataract operation booked for early December. I have just read the risks associated with it!! You know nurses can be the worse patients, probably because they've seen it all to do with operations, recovery etc. I will be brave, but at the time of my finals I had nothing to do with eyes as I didn't like the thought of anything involving such a delicate part of the anatomy. Funny how my first nursing post as an R.G.N.in a busy Accident and emergency department saw me assisting in many an operation to remove a foreign body in the eye. Many a grown man was to waver following the removal of said foreign body, with a magnificent fall to the floor after the offending item had been removed.

My Kindle

The eyesight is not so good at the moment. I await the cataract operation. I'm told there is nothing to it. I'll let you know mid December. The point I'm coming to is that I find reading on my kindle the answer to be able to enjoy my books. You can alter the print size to whatever you wish. Most books have such small print, unless you go for the specialised ones. I would recommend the Kindle or similar for anyone struggling with paperbacks or hardbacks because of poor sight. Enjoy Sunday.

Good afternoon

I'm so excited about the book club I'm now involved in. Had the 1st meeting last Thursday and discussed the book 'The Rosie Project.'by Graeme Simsion A very good read indeed. There are eight of us involved, healthy and varied discussions took place. Our next book is 'The hundred year old man.' I had been interested in joining a book club for some time but could not find one locally. Then a friend put out feelers to see if she could get some other folk interested and she succeeded. It is hoped that the group will continue meeting every 4-6 weeks. If you know of anybody interested in becoming a member do let me know,we meet in and around the Canterbury area. Have a good forthcoming week.

Madeira

Yes, it is a beautiful Island, but a few points to be aware of. 1.It's very hilly and if you don't like climbing them, difficult to avoid. 2.The weather lived up to the forecasts, sun and showers. Hot and humid 3.Eating out quite expensive. 4.No sandy beaches. The positives include, 1.Wonderful and friendly people 2.80% of revenue is from tourism.20% from the export of bananas. 3.Service industry excellent, you may not have gone into the shop to buy, but I'll guarantee you will come out with something. 4. Tours on offer excellent. 2ND NOVEL COMING ALONG,THE LIBERTY BODICE.
